The Sacred Art of Dahabiya Sailing: Experiencing the Untouristed Nile

To sail the Nile on a private Dahabiya is to step outside of linear time. Unlike towering 300-passenger cruise liners that must adhere to rigid lock schedules and churn the waters with diesel engines, a private Dahabiya is propelled by traditional lateen sails and the quiet rhythm of the river currents.

Our guests wake to the gentle lapping of the Nile against seasoned cedar wood, breakfasting on fresh pomegranate, Egyptian flatbread, and local honeycomb on the teak sundeck.

Because of our shallow draft, we moor at secluded river islands, hidden ancient quarries at Gebel el-Silsila where stone for Luxor’s temples was hewn, and peaceful Nubian villages that large vessels can never reach. As twilight casts amber reflections across the water, candlelit lanterns illuminate the deck for a gourmet dinner prepared by your private chef.
